A Guest Lecture “Statistics as tool for Biodiversity Assessment” was organised by Department of Botany on 5/10/2018. Dr.Amita Sharma, former Principal, University Rajasthan College and Professor, Department of Statistics, University of Rajasthan delivered the lecture. Dr.Amita Sharma was welcomed by Dr.Kalpana Agarwal, Head ofthe Department. The Lecture was attended by the students of B.Sc. Sem V, M.Sc.Sem I and M.Sc. Sem III. M.Sc.  students of Zoology and Environmental Science also attended the Lecture. In the session ma’am talked about basics and fundamentals of statistics, basic tools of statistics, use of T-test, Annova in the field of biology. She emphasized on the use of statistics in collection and management of data and how it helps in organising the quantitative summaries for the information related to biological sciences.She concluded the lecture highlighting the importance of Statistics in gaining accurate results and determining effect of the vital events as births deaths and migrations events like prevalence of disease, changes in environment and other causative factors on Biodiversity. The lecture made the students aware of the importance of Biostatistics in proper summarization and interpretation of all the data which can lead to development and implementation of new policies which could be helpful in conservation of biodiversity.
