PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

PSO 1

Students will acquire core competency in the subject Botany, and in allied subject areas

PSO 2

Students will be able to identify the major groups of plants and compare and contrast the characteristics of Bacteria, Virus, Lichens, Algae, Fungi, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms, that differentiate them from each other and from other forms of life, and also their diverse economic importance.

PSO 3

The students will be able to explain various plant processes and functions, metabolism, concepts of gene, genome and how organism’s function is influenced at the cell, tissue and organ level and process and importance of Genetic Engineering in the present day scenario

PSO 4

Students will be able to understand adaptation, development, behavior of different forms of life and networked life on earth and          tracing the energy pyramids through nutrient flow. This will help them use the evidence based comparative botany approach to explain the evolution of organism and understand the genetic diversity on the earth.

PSO 5

Students will be able to demonstrate the experimental techniques and methods of their     respective area of specialization in Botany.

PSO 6

Students will develop an edge over others for employment skills in     different fields like Plant tissue culture,  Plant Breeding, Plant Systematics, IPR, Plant  Biotechnology, Tissue culture, Photochemistry, Garden Techniques, Bioinformatics, Mushroom Cultivation, Biotransformation, Plant exploration and identification and as a  technical expert in National parks and Botanical gardens, etc.

PSO 7

Apply one’s knowledge and understanding of Botany specifically Plant Physiology and Biochemistry to new/unfamiliar contexts and to identify problems and solutions in daily life. Knowledge of Plant Diseases and their remediation, technique of hybridization, role of mutations in plant breeding, would be of help to Indian Agriculture

PSO 8

Students will develop an understanding of sustainable development along with conservation of environment

PSO 9

Students will be able to utilize embryological studies, knowledge on the organization of genes and chromosomes and structure of basic components of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in various aspects like analysis of evolutionary trends, circumscription and delimitation of taxa and making a decision on systematic positions.

PSO 10

Develop a basic knowledge of taxonomic diversity, important systems of classification, well-known herbaria and botanical gardens and important families of useful plants which would increase the awareness and appreciation of plants & plant products encountered in everyday life
