Visit to Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute, Durgapura

 Department of Botany, The IIS University, Jaipur, organized a visit to the Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute (RARI), Durgapura. Students of B.Sc (Semester VI) and M.Sc (Botany) of the University were accompanied by Dr. Smita Purohit (Sr. Assistant Professor, Dept. of Botany) and Dr. Kalpana Agarwal (Associate Professor, Dept. of Botany). The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the students with various methods involved in development and selection of disease resistant varieties of commercially important crop plants like Wheat, Bajra, Mung, Moth etc. The students also gained knowledge about other breeding techniques practiced for developing improved varieties of crop plants. The students were made aware about the adverse effects of use of pesricides in the vegetable crops and were briefed about various strategies implemented for promoting organic farming. The visit was helpful for the students to gain practical knowledge about various pests infesting the crop fields and their control using biological methods that are less harmful to the mankind.
