Information on Prosopis cineraria (Khejri)
• Rajasthan has declared it State tree.
• Other names are Kalptaru , King of Desert and Wonder Tree.
• Can sustain it both in Arid and Semi-arid conditions.
• It has Religious values.
• Bark is used as fuel; Leaves are used as fodder; many a times good shelter.
• Oldest and Biggest khejri tree is 360 years old. It’s height is 15 m , crown is of 25 m.It is located in Bahrain (United Arab Emirates)

Topic-Biodiversity of Rajasthan
• Biodiversity is defined by the convention on biological diversity as “the variability among living organism,all sources, including terrestrial,marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part;this includes diversity within species,between species and of ecosystems.”
• Out of 2,50,000 species of flowering plants-
• 3000 species are used as food.
• 200 species are cultivated.
• 20 species are crops of major economic importance.
• 20,000 species are plants are used as medicine.
• 5000 species are thoroughly investigated.
• Still the potential of tropical plants is highly unexploited.
• Aravali characteristics – Length- 692 km,with 12 gaps;extendsto 18 districts ,66% of population of state of Rajasthan
• Important plant species-Acacia catechu,Commiphora weightii,Miliusa tomentosa,Anogeissus pendula,Butea monosperma.

• Venom shows its effect when it enters blood while poison shows its effect when it enters alimentary canal.
• Venomous snakes-
• Cobra-Neurotoxic,fatal period;8 hours.It has spects on back which look like eyes.
• Russel’s viper-Haemotoxic,fatal period;3 days.Stop blood clotting.Yellow body, 5-6 feet.
• Saw scaled viper-Haemotoxic,fatal period; 2 days.
• Common Krait-Neurotoxic,fatal period; 18 hours
