Day 1: 3 October 8, 2016

 Activity: Screening of a movie on climate change- Day After Tommorow

The Department of Botany organized a movie show to mark the World Wild Life week from 1 October to 7 October 2016 for undergraduate and post graduate students. The movie is a sci fi fiction film directed and produced by Roland Emmerich. The students were sensitized about catastrophic climate effects  that might lead to global cooling and ice age causing habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity.

 

Day 2: 4 October 8, 2016

Activity: Guest lecture on ‘Some Interesting Plants’

Resource Person: Prof. P.C.Trivedi, Former Vice Chancellor, DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur.

Professor Trivedi gave a discourse on interesting plants that we encounter in our day to day life like Elaeocarpus ganitrus, Terminalia ballerica, Ficus spp, Putranjiva roxburghii etc. He also shared information regarding important facts such as tallest and shortest plant, tallest angiosperm, largest and smallest flower and largest seed. These facts  other than enhancing the knowledge of the students also make for important questions in various competitive exams.
