in collaboration with Department of Botany
18-23 September, 2023
The Centre for Research, Innovation and Training (CRIT) and Department of Botany of IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur organized a six day workshop on ‘Histology’ for research scholars and PG students of the school of Life Sciences.
The session commenced with a warm welcome to all the students of the session.
Dr. Radhika Sharma , Head Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology ,delivered the welcome address and the resource person Dr. Yashmin Akhtar , Assistant Professor in Botany , Kanodia PG College , Jaipur, introduced various aspects of histology , highlighting its importance in life science research. A powerpoint presentation was used to explain Histology in depth and clarity.
On Day one , the workshop started with the initial step, fixation process of plants and animal tissues. On Day Two the resource person elaborated the dehydration step critical for making good slides .Embedding step was highlighted on the third day , while sectioning was explained on the fourth day . Staining, using various stains was deliberated upon the fifth day . Observation and interpretation was done on the last day. Each and every procedure was practically demonstrated by Dr Yashmin Akhtar in easy and comprehensible manner and all the participants were engaged completely.
Objectives of the Workshop:-
● To learn advanced techniques for analyzing various tissue samples.
● To understand the staining techniques used for studying plant and animal tissues
● To understand various types of microscopy to visualize internal structures
● Providing knowledge on fixing plant and animal tissues in different fixatives
● To motivate students for histological research
● To make participants better informed about the opportunities in the field of histology
● The program aimed to train the participants in histology to unravel tissue architecture.
The workshop concluded with the visualization of the detailed internal structure of plant and animal tissue in the microscope. All the objectives were clearly achieved at the successful commencement of the workshop and the participants were skilled at making clear sections and slides in histological research.
