A field trip to World Forestry Arboretum, Jaipur

A field trip to World Forestry Arboretum, Jaipur, was organized on 10th August 2016, by the Department of Botany, The IIS University, Jaipur. The trip was organised for post graduates students of the department and was accompanied by two faculty members Dr. Shilpi Rijhwani & Dr. Reenu Agarwal along with two resource persons form State Forest Department. The World Forestry Arboretum covers an area of 40 hectares of land along the Jhalana hills of Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was established in 1886 by the state government. This arboretum serves as a botanical herbal garden with its natural flora and the introduced exotic species from various parts of the world. Of the total 366 plant species recorded, around 115 plant species are wild plants of which 32 plants have  medicinal properties. It was a great experience for all students to learn about many rare species of plants like Manilkara hexandra, Tecomella undulata, Limonia acidissima, Oroxylum indicum etc. Arboretum is a plentiful resource of wild life, which consists of different species of reptiles, tigers, leopard, monkeys and deer and also offers natural ambiance to a great variety of bird flock. During this field trip students had the opportunity to see diverse flora and fauna and learned about them in a more realistic way.
