Lichens, Fungi and Plant Pathology |
On completion of this course, the students will be able to; CO6: Develop an understanding about the structure, pigmentation, food reserves and methods of reproduction of Fungi and appreciate their adaptive strategies. CO7: Develop an understanding about nutritional and medicinal value of edible mushrooms & poisonous mushrooms which would enable them to be successful entrepreneurs. CO8: Demonstrate skills in laboratory, field and glasshouse work related to the Cultivation techniques of mushroom. CO9: Develop understanding on the concept of microbial nutrition, their reproduction/ recombination CO10: Classify Lichens based on their characteristics and structures and study their economic importance specially in the context of ecology. CO11: Identify true fungi and demonstrate the principles and application of plant pathology in the control of plant disease. CO12: Identify the common plant diseases according to geographical locations and device control measures. |

Mycoplasma: General characters, structure, reproduction and economic importance.
Phytoplasma: General characters, structure, reproduction and economic importance.
Fungi I: General characters, classification and economic importance, parasexual cycle, heterothallism, mushroom cultivation, poisonous fungi, fungi in medicine.
Fungi II: General characters, classification and economic importance, life history of –
Plant Pathology I: History and scope of plant pathology, general account of diseases caused by plant pathogens, significance of plant diseases, pathogen attack and defence mechanisms.
Plant Pathology II: Symptomatology, causal organism, disease cycle and control of the following plant diseases: Tobacco mosaic virus, bhindi yellow mosaic, little leaf of brinjal, citrus canker, white rust of crucifers, green ear disease of bajra, late blight of potato, rust and smut of wheat.
