Overview

The Department of Botany, established in the year 1995, is one of the four disciplines which constitute the School of Life Sciences, The IIS University, Jaipur. Its building, with a built-up area of 680 sq. feet, is located in the ‘F’ Block of the University campus.
We provide our students with high quality classroom experiences and opportunities for research in the laboratories and field, so that they acquire the biological literacy and critical skills necessary for a successful career in education, industry or government; as well as to pursue higher education.
Our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes offer studies in molecular, genetic, cellular and developmental biology, through physiology, structural botany, taxonomy, ecology, ethnobotany and biotechnology. Students and researchers have access to leading-edge microscopic facilities, well-equipped tissue culture, photochemistry laboratories and state-of-the-art plant growth chamber.
The research interest of the faculty is primarily in the areas of Plant tissue culture, Phytochemistry, Micromorphology and Ethnobotany for which they are being supported and funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and University Grants Commission (UGC). The Department has also undertaken a project on organic farming and vermicomposting in collaboration with a leading agriculture marketing company.
Thus, the department is marching ahead to achieve its mission to discover, transmit knowledge and keeping pace with the advancement in science accepting new challenge in the frontier areas of the Plant Sciences.
