1. To teach the basic skill of nursery bed preparation and garden management to the
students.

preparation and its management for growth of
plants.

vigorous and disease free vegetable crops.
CO4: Evaluate the various methods of pest and
disease control.
CO5: Create an ideal environment for sustainable
growth of nursery plants.

Nursery: definition, objectives and scope and building up of infrastructure for nursery,
planning and seasonal activities - Planting - direct seeding and transplants.

Seed: Structure and types - Seed dormancy; causes and methods of breaking dormancy -
Seed storage: Seed banks, factors affecting seed viability, genetic erosion - Seed
production technology - seed testing and certification.

Vegetative propagation: air-layering, cutting, selection of cutting, collecting season,
treatment of cutting, rooting medium and planting of cuttings - Hardening of plants -
green house - mist chamber, shed root, shade house and glass house.

Gardening: definition, objectives and scope - different types of gardening - landscape and
home gardening - parks and its components - plant materials and design - Gardening operations: soil laying, manuring, watering, management of pests and diseases in
gardening.

Sowing/raising of seeds and seedlings - Transplanting of seedlings - Study of cultivation
of different vegetables: cabbage, brinjal, lady’s finger, onion, tomatoes, and carrots -
Storage and marketing procedures.
