On completion of this course, the students will be able to:

CO6: Learn the microscopic techniques to familiarize with the external and internal structure of lower group organisms such as Algae, Bryophytes and Fungi

CO7: Demonstrate proficiency in the experimental techniques and methods of appropriate analysis of Pteridophytes and Gymnosperms

CO8: Study different types of lichens and their role in Ecology

Viva voce interviews are majorly adopted assessment methods

 

 

 CONTENTS:

• Study of vegetative and reproductive structures of Nostoc, Volvox and Polysiphonia through temporary preparations and permanent slides. 
• Rhizopus: Asexual stage from temporary mounts and sexual structures through permanent slides.
• Puccinia: Herbarium specimens of Black Stem Rust of Wheat and infected Barberry leaves; section/tease mounts of spores on Wheat and permanent slides of both the hosts.
• Agaricus: Specimens of button stage and full grown mushroom; Sectioning of gills of Agaricus.
• Marchantia- Morphology of thallus, T.S. thallus through gemma cup, v.s. antheridiophore, archegoniophore.
• Funaria- Morphology, l.s. capsule
• Anthoceros- Morphology, l.s. of Sporophyte (permanent slide).
• Equisetum- morphology, l.s. strobilus, t.s rhizome (permanent slide).
• Cycas- morphology (coralloid roots, leaf), t.s. coralloid root, t.s. rachis, t.s. leaflet, v.s. Microsporophyll. 
• Pinus: t.s. needle, t.s. male cone, w.m. microsporophyll, w.m. microspores (temporary slides), l.s. female cone.
